Pretty good food, not going to lie! The service is where the line is drawn, i went in for some baklava and asked just for that and she must have misunderstood me because she started making a gyro and i stopped her and i said " no i asked for baklava" and she rolled her eyes and stopped right where she was and said something to the guy by her and he helped serve me until i was satisfied, also pretty hard to understand with they're accents and the big glass wall.

I love gyros. I always get the Sami's gyro and it's basically delicious. They add this amazing spice at the end that really makes it. The gyro meat is thick and fresh. My only beef is with the lettuce. It's almost $8 for a gyro and they use the worse lettuce possible. It's iceberg and is always yellow and white, rarely is there a green piece. You're situated in East Grand Rapids, step your lettuce game up! Offer a spring mix or spinach!

When first walking in, it almost looks like a convenience store, which had me a little worried. After browsing the selection of imported goods, we made our way to the back where the lunch counter is. I settled on a veggie pita wrap and ordered that. I expected them to be roasted veggies...or something, so when I noticed all the veggies were raw, I was again a little worried. But, I went ahead with the order anyway. It's sort of like a build-your-own wrap place, so I loaded it up, hoping it wouldn't be a disappointment. The woman at the counter also let me pick two sauces (tzatziki and hummus), which were liberally spooned on my pita. I don't know what magic she put on my sandwich, but those plain raw veggies were transformed into something spectacular. So good that, towards the end, when they started spilling out, I grabbed a fork and ate them like that, not wanting any of it to go to waste. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I am now so glad to have stumbled upon this place. It's a great little find. I can't wait to go back!

These people do it right. Great pita, hummus is tasty, superb garlic sauce. I buy the pita bags at a time. I recommend the lamb gyro and schwarma. Excellent.

I'm not sure what's not to like about this place. If you're in the mood for good Mediterranean fare, reasonably priced, whipped up promptly, in generous portions (and want to complement it in run-on sentences because you like it so much), then this is your place. They have a good vegetarian selection and great gyros. Despite eating here countless times, I've never left disappointed.

We love locally-owned restaurants. Usually these places never fail us. However, The Pita House was just all right. We ordered a few vegetarian options: the veggie combo consisted of grape leaves, fatoosh salad, babaghanooj, falafel, and pita bread. Mujaddara dish consisted of rice and lentil dish served with yogurt and salad. We both enjoyed the babaghanooj, which tasted smoky and flavorful. Salads tasted nice and fresh, with a light acidic dressing. Falafels a bit dry. Hummous light, almost bland. No fresh pita, only baked pita chips. The great thing about Greek food is that you can mix everything together, and it tastes delicious. So thats what we did. The mixture of falafel, pita, salads, and yogurt proved tasty. However, the strength of a dish is based on its individual flavor. We just weren't impressed. The atmosphere is okay, more like a grocery store/deli kind of feel. There were several families there who seemed to enjoy their meals. Make sure you check out their website for the latest coupons and promotions. Bottom line: Not as cheap as we thought. Food just all right. Mind over matter, food over mind.

Damn good gyros. Damn good. So good I need to stop eating them so I can try something else.

Used them to cater a lunch a few months back. The service/catering was excellent as was the quality of food.

Great food, and very generous portions. I eat here regularly, and always do their black and white gyro (lamb and chicken) on a wheat pita. They are set up like a sub shop, where you walk up to the window, tell them what you want, then what toppings you want on it. They make it right there in front of you. They've got an assortment of fresh toppings (pickled turnip, green and banana peppers, parsley, lettuce, tomato, onion, jalipeno peppers, black olives, feta cheese, chick peas, etc). On my last visit, I took someone's advise and got half cucumber sauce and half hummus instead of all hummus, and enjoyed it. Give it a try! They'll pack the gyro full of veggies to the point where they need to re-pack the ones that fall out the side as they are rolling it up. Have them cut it in half before they bag it, because you'll be able to save the other half for later (though it doesn't warm up well). They've even upgraded the napkins they use. Before, they had the thinnest napkins around, that would shred after the third use, which wasn't good because the gyros can be messy. Now, though, they've got normal napkins, that will clean up thge mess you are bound to make. This is not a fast-food place, but a place to get real food, fast. I love Sami's Pita House.

I found Sami's Pita House while traveling to Grand Rapids for a few months. I was pleasantly surprised to find such good ethic food here, because the city overall is pretty barren of it. Location: Two locations, one near Lake Drive, and other on 28th Ave. Look and feel: Very simple setup, basically like a sandwich shop. You order at the counter and can take your food to go or eat it at the tables there. It's not fancy, but it's perfectly functional. Menu: They have a nice selection of Greek and Mediterranean foods. The food: I typically ate the Lebanese Gyro Platter, which consisted of gyro meat, hummus or baba ghanoush (I would ask for half of both), pita bread (including an option for wheat), and a choice of salad. The gyro and the spreads are excellent. The pita is fine, if not special. I found the Greek Salad to be mediocre. I've also tried their Kibbe and Felafel, both of which are available in individual pieces. Both are also quite good. Their lentil soup is ok, but not really worth adding to your meal, especially given that their meal portions are very generous. Value: For $15 or so, you can eat like a king. It's worth every penny. Will I go back? If I ever find myself back in Grand Rapids, you can be sure I'll be back.

Veggie friendly, fast, cheap. I had the best freaking ginger molasses cookie ever. It was kinda salty. Open late and on Sundays. Now if only falafel was a healthy food...

The Pita House is your place if you confuse quantity for quality. I love gyros. However, I want the meat to have some spice and to be served crisp. The Pita House piles on the wet meat with no thought toward taste. The cucumber sauce is equally nondescript. Lots of white slime with no nuance. If your into quantity give Pita House a shot. The Gyros are huge.

Have been craving a gyro and the pita house didn't disappoint. It is a cool set up being half store and half cafe type joint. The food area was "subway" reminiscent of choosing your fillings for the gyro first. I really appreciate seeing everything "behind the scenes" though. Very clean. The gyro was good, everything was fresh and I liked the turnips in it. The pita was more like flatbread/tortilla. I will be back.

The Pita House is one of my go-to quick meal joints in GR. I've hit up both the Wealthy and 28th locations, and everything is equally good at both. Also one of our go-to lunch spots. The falafel is great, and the black & white is probably my favorite thing to get at just about any hour of the day. The hummus and baba ganouj are fantastic, and if you're brave enough to order a platter meal, I hope you either brought a friend or plan on having leftovers. This is fast food as it should be: fast and GOOD.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed The Pita House yet! Yikes! My bad! I love this place and they have the best pitas in town. I typically always get the black and white. Don't forget to get their hummus because it really is the best. Its a casual place to grab a bite to eat. Eat it there, pick it up, just make sure you stop by! I do prefer to take mine to go as their eating area is not very welcoming. And yes, their portions are generous! Try the Greek fries cause they are amazing!

Yes, their falafel is off the hook! And their greek fries...loaded with feta and greek dressing....are slap your momma good. I haven't really tried much else at this place but the spinich pie...which is very tastey was well. Totally recomend it but come hungry. The portions are generous. :)

Good vegetarian options and quick, friendly service. The only thing that irks me is they charge for refills on fountain soda.

Every time I'm back "home" in G.R. I hit the Pita House. Sami is a great guy, and his staff is top-notch for the style of the place. The gyros are great, and very generous. I recommend having them done traditional Greek fashion, and then adding some of the pickled turnips, topping it off with extra sumac. Delicious! The Greek fries are good, the kibbe is fantastic, and the fatoosh makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Prices are pretty high, but as I said, portions are generous.

While I enjoyed my dining experience there and thought the food was good, I can't say I was blown away. It's a very casual atmosphere combined with a grocery area with a few isles of Mediterranean food products. It's important to mention that I'm not particularly fond of this type of food and was trying it out for the first time. 2 stars were withheld for price which I felt was a little high based on the quality of the food.

Yup, it's amazing. One of the best things in GR. Fantastic Greek fries and gyros! Seriously, these gyros rival the Athens street vendors. My only wish is that Sami's would put the fries IN the gyro. Check out their 28th street location.

This place was fantastic. Would hve been a hole in the wall local only place if I didn't have yelp. The shwarma was what I had and everything combined togetherfor the best gyro I've ever had

Mmmmmm falafel. Really good pickled beets, too. I wish their hummus was better. Otherwise delicious.

If you want good, cheap and authentic Mediterranean food in West Michigan, you have to hit up Sami's Pita House. Good ol' Sami's has been a mainstay for years in Eastown, outliving the likes of Monster Burrito and even Eastunes. Order up a freshly shaved gyro, some shawarma, or my favorite, the vegetarian platter. This will get you a plate of grape leave wraps, hummous/baba ganoush, pita bread, fatoosh/tabouli salad, and of course the delicious falafel. They also sell some Middle Eastern groceries and drinks, along with some hookahs. UPDATE: had to knock them down a star since the prices have skyrocketed... it used to be about $6 for a vegetarian platter and now its $9.50? Gimme a break. I kept it at 4 stars because the grocery section is awesome and competitively priced.

It's one place we try to go every time we head "home" to GR. I used to live around the corner from this place and I would eat there all the time. The falafel sandwich is my favorite and you can't beat walking up to the counter with a prepared meal and a jar of tahini! I wish I had a Pita House around the corner (but not through the stinky Billy's alley) from me still!!!!

I have lived in the GR area all my life and somehow missed out on the Pita House (all these wasted years). I saw the great reviews on Yelp and decided to take a colleague for lunch....well...it was AWESOME! To start off the staff was very friendly including Sami himself. They laughed and had some fun with me because I told them I was a first timer. I ordered the Sami gyro and it was excellent along with an order of Greek fries which were also great. My colleague ordered the tour of Greece and loved it too. We took home more food than we could eat and it won't go to waste.

Very good food. Stopped by for lunch after many recommendations from friends. Not the cheapest lunch I've had, but you get a lot for your money. Don't really have much to add that other folks haven't said, but the grocery section looks interesting. I'd just as soon make something to eat as buy it and authentic components get me curious to monkey around in the kitchen. Will definitely be back..

I cannot go more than a week in the summer without one of Sami's gyros. I just cant. The store is mostly about the gyro, but they have an assortment of typical and imported juices, sodas and anything in between and many amazing Mediterranean desserts. I would give close to anything for a gyro and an Orangina. Thank you Sami's.

Ten years ago, my friend introduced me to Pita House ("You've never been to Pita House!?!") by saying, "If I'm ever on death row, their Black & White on wheat is in consideration for my last meal." Every time I visit family in G-Rap, I make the obligatory stop here. Still amazing.
